Summary / Description

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Data Architect to join our team in Arlington, VA to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.

 

In this role you will gain valuable career-enhancing experience as we support the design, development, testing, implementation, training, and maintenance of our federal government’s critical systems. 

 

Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and builds relational databases.
  • Performs data access analysis design, and archive/recovery design and implementation.
  • Develops strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of a database.
  • Works in a data warehouse environment, which includes data design, database architecture, and metadata repository creation.
  • Translates business needs into long-term architecture solutions.
  • Defines, designs, and builds dimensional databases.
  • Develops data warehousing blueprints, evaluating hardware and software platforms, and integrating systems.
  • Reviews and develops object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.
  • Provides system design and development, applications and operations support, data architecture, client computing consultation, user support and training, business process review and consultation, third party software evaluation, purchase and implementation for unique business solutions.
  • Focuses on wide-ranging and cross-functional application knowledge.
  • Encourages others to consider innovative alternatives and contributes to business strategy.
  • Sets and directs action plans. Understands functional concepts and drives for results.

 

 

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Database Management and Data Maintenance
  • Must have full understanding of Relational database concepts and able to develop and design Relational data models. 
  • Must have experience and knowledge of database technologies such as Oracle 12C and other open source database such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB and their uses. 
  • Work closely with the Application development team to ensure requirements are understood and documented for the database development team. 
  • Participate in Daily SCRUM to ensure reporting of blockers and issues so that the SPRINT cycle is on track. 
  • Install, configure, and upgrade server and database components for DEV, SAT, QA and create implementation plans for production environments deployments. 
  • Develop and maintain scripts. 
  • Must be familiar with the GIT repository for all database scripts and artifacts. 
  • Create and maintain Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD) via tools such as ERWIN or other similar ERD tools. 
  • Must have 5 years’ experience creating and designing queries and Tuning Queries. 
  • Must be able to trouble shoot and analyze production issues related to the database and queries.
  • Performance Tuning and Tuning Operating Systems for PostgreSQL database
  • Data Modeling
  • Process Improvement and Requirements Analysis,
  • Database Security and Developing Standards
  • PostgreSQL Database Performance Tuning by index and partition management
  • PostgreSQL highly available multi-node clustering, replication and connection pooling installation and configuration
  • PostgreSQL backup/recovery, restore and troubleshooting experience
  • Database and application development using SQL, PL/SQL, and other tools
  • Logical and physical database design, development, and implementation
  • Performance Optimization and Tuning by analysis tool, planner statistics, table partitioning and VACCUM'ing.
  • Logical and physical database design, development, and implementation.

Desired Skills

  • Big Data and/or NoSQL experience is plus
  • Experience in managing a DBMS deployed inside Cloud environment is a plus
  • EDB PostgreSQL certification Advanced Server Professional is preferred.
  • Data warehouse designing, development, implementation, and administration
  • Data migration and transformation

Position Requirements:

U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics or Computational Statistics preferred

8 years of experience
