Position Summary / Responsibilities:

We are seeking motivated, career and customer oriented Project Director, interested in joining our team in Arlington, VA, and exploring an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.


Responsible for profitably leading and directing large scale and complex projects or a single project of strategic importance, including project financials. Leads the sales, management and/or delivery of services and solutions into targeted high-growth markets for new and existing clients. Assumes a proactive and direct role for developing and cultivating service opportunities and establishing engagements to ensure profitable revenue growth for Unisys.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes

  • P&L/ Program Management
  • Has significant level services profitability responsibility and manages services delivery for multiple projects.
  • Manages financials and operational metrics for the projects.
  • Ensures that the program or organization's strategy is consistent with Unisys strategy.
  • Achieves profitable revenue growth through the successful implementation of the business strategy.
  • Project Management and Service Delivery
  • Provides delivery of services consistent with Unisys strategy.
  • Provides team leadership and creativity in development and implementation of services engagements.
  • Develops and cultivates service opportunities and establishes engagements to ensure profitable revenue and growth.
  • Uses strong project management skills to lead the delivery of mid to large sized projects within planned timelines, budget, margins and quality specifications.
  • Directs the development and integration of project deliverables.

Business Development and Client Relationship Management

  • Establishes strong client relationships, and leverages industry expertise to translate the client’s long-range business plan into a services strategy. 
  • Evaluates the client's business strategy, objectives and requirements.
  • Identifies and pursues new business opportunities within existing client base. 
  • Builds 'client for life' relationships by successfully leveraging Unisys entire portfolio to deliver breakthrough results for his/her clients.
  • Assists clients in developing strategy and create innovative client-specific solutions that drive meaningful business change.
  • People Management
  • Manages performance, learning and development, and career paths for a team of people.
  • Advocates and models a strong focus on performance management, development, career growth, engagement, and diversity within the program.
  • Provides mentoring, performance feedback, training and professional development opportunities to help individuals within the program reach their full potential
  • Builds a successful team through quality recruitment, selection, placement and development. 
  • Provides appropriate mentoring, feedback, training and development opportunities to help individuals within the practice reach their full potential.

  • Has successfully applied knowledge to establish client contacts and develop new business; has used knowledge to build own image and reputation. Stays current with information management / technology / IT Infrastructure industry, competitor and vendor strategies, technologies and offerings.   • Forecasts, plans, implements and reviews financial and people resources in order to meet defined business requirements in line with company strategic plans, targets and objectives. Defines intermediate goals and contingencies.
  • Communicates in an open, candid, clear, complete and consistent manner. Listens well and gives full attention when others are speaking. Demonstrates maturity, self-confidence and self-control in formal and informal interactions.
  • Demonstrates marketable expertise in at least two market segments and/or functional/technical areas of specialization.
  • Maintains absolute integrity while balancing the potentially conflicting objectives of exceeding client expectations for quality and value, appropriately developing professionals within his/her practice.
  • Utilizes a collaborative working style that stresses teamwork and places the best interests of Unisys over individual and team objectives.


Key Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of professional service experience managing projects within the organization’s industry, domain or program solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proven ability to recognize and diagnose issues, work in teams, and leverage the resources of other related practices to address client challenges.
  • Superior ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders



  • Average 7-10 years professional service practice experience managing programs within the organization's industry, domain or program solutions. 
  • Prior work experience should include: 
    • Performing the job of an architect or solutions specialist, business development manager (or consultative selling /closing experience), project manager. 
    • A sustained record of developing new add-on, profitable business. 
    • Applying risk mitigation/management methodology when developing, capturing and delivering services. 
    • Developing relationships with a variety of clients in a broad range of industries. 
    • Obtaining in-depth knowledge of one’s area of specialization, field or technology. 
  • Successfully completed PMI or IPMA professional certification. 
  • Active participation in professional associations, industry roundtables, etc.
