Summary / Description

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Technical Writer to join our team in Reston, VA, to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.


 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Individual will be responsible to produce technical content.
  • Individual will work as a team member with data architects, software engineers and other development team members to prepare agile technical documentation for software systems under development.
  • Individual will write technical documentation, such as, functional descriptions, system specifications, special reports, and other customer deliverables and documents.
  • Other activities include collecting & organizing information for the preparation of design documents, user manuals, installation guides, and requirement documents.
  • Must be able to write technical content and be able to organize and prepare information and data for use in a wide variety of complex technical publications requiring expert knowledge of software development technologies and methodologies.
  • Individual must possess good editorial standards and be able to review and correct technical literature prepared by other staff members for content, coverage, and clarity.
  • Exceptional writing & verbal skills with the ability to work independently or as a member of various development teams is required.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, high-output environment, be detailed and processes oriented in their work; with the ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project is expected.


Position Requirements:

  • US Citizen with Active DoD Secret clearance !
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science / related field or equivalent years’ experience. 
  • Five plus (5+) years of experience in technical writing pertaining to software development. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010. 
  • Knowledge of software development and methodologies. 
  • Ability to pay strict attention to detail. 
  • Create user documentation and instruction material in print, electronic, and visual formats for different audiences – from application developers to non-technical end users
  • Create technical information- white papers, reference documentation, implementation plans, how-tos, lessons learned 
  • Creates different forms of business communications – memos, meeting minutes, PowerPoints, training guides, infographics.
  • Create Software Design Description (SDD), Interface Design Description (IDD), and Software Version Description (SVD).
  • Supports the content on internal web pages – Confluence and SharePoint 
  • Preferred Skills: Familiarity with NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF)
