Summary / Description

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Linux System Administrator to join our team in Reston, VA, to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.


In this position you will be:


  • Providing system administration engineering services to an application development team.
  • Supporting a system modernization effort that encompasses modernizing/standing up a Linux platform, and supporting the development of a new application.
  • Responsible for all internal core infrastructure support services related to standing up the environment for development, DevOps, and transition to production. 
  • Responsible for effective installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. 
  • Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs. 
  • Focusing on improving the stability and performance of the system, maintaining and improving the security posture of the systems, continuous monitoring of system health, and troubleshooting issues that arise. 
  • Working collaboratively with the software development team, DevOps support team, automated test engineers, IA staff, and program management and software architects.
  • Performing Production operations and support the evolution of the modernized system platform
  • Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining the development, test, and pre-production environments.
  • Developing the operations capability for the production deployment for the modernized system. 
  • Installing new/rebuild existing servers, and VMs and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. 
  • Installing and configuring systems that support infrastructure and/or proof-of-concept or technical spike activities. 
  • Developing and maintaining installation and configuration procedures. 
  • Contributing to, maintaining and documenting system standards. 
  • Contributing to and maintaining security posture of the system in accordance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides, CTOs and IAVM policies. 
  • Researching and recommending innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. 


Required Skills, Experience, Certifications


  • Red Hat, Open Shift, Ansible Experience
  • Ability to do application platform APM
  • Infrastructure architectural design experience (stood up an ESX environment, LDAP environment, stood up a DNS/DHCP environment)
  • JBOSS EAP Experience
  • Experience hardening Linux to DISA STIG
  • ACAS Experience (optional)
  • Familiarity with CND processes
  • Support hardware
  • Experience in DevOps (a plus) Operations automation 
  • VMWare Enterprise Experience (NSX a plus)
  • Putty
  • Traditional Scripting/ruby, python, Puppet
  • DOD 8570 Certified (Security +)
  • Experience with code analyzers (a plus)
  • Docker Containers (a plus)
  • Naval Messaging experience (a plus)
  • Minimum Secret Clearance is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree & minimum 8 years of related experience or equivalent blend of education and experience.
