We are currently seeking a motivated, career Junior Technical Writer to join our team in Washington, DC to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.
A successful candidate will have several years of experience creating documentation for Information Technology projects. Desired experience includes providing editorial support for a variety of technical documents such as briefing papers, records of meeting, standards, guidelines, and presentations to help convey information accurately to technical committees, and working groups. The ideal candidate will be able to read and analyze highly technical materials and to create presentations of that information including user manuals, presentations, reports, or training documents. You must have the ability to work independently on numerous activities and prioritize them properly while meeting deadlines and to work collaboratively with other team members.
Tasks include: Gathering technical details from SMEs to create internal and external documentation, performing technical editing to standardize and format wording and layout of documents, adapting to changing document specifications and ability to manage a multi-author/multi-reviewer publication process cooperatively. This includes assisting with the capture of details from technical meetings and working sessions, and developing standardized documentation templates for all deliverables.
Essential Functions: Write, edit, format and review a variety of technical documents to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Coordinate preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts used in conjunction with written materials to accurate convey complex technical information. Work directly with the project manager and technical leads to ensure documents are following required standards and formats
Master's degree and 3 years experience or equivalent
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Excellent communication and writing skills
Ability to work independently and understand complex technical terms/materials
Proficiency with computer graphics and publications applications preferred
Experience working under the Veteran-focused Integration Processes is preferred
Experience with VA programs, and an understanding of the VA mission and work flows preferred
