We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Senior Server Engineer (NetApp) to join our team in St Louis, MO or Kansas City, KS to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems.
Perform day to day operational administrative functions for the day-to-day support of the USDA server environment across the country. Escalate operational or technical concerns to federal SME(s) for the given infrastructure service or end user program area. Provide on-call coverage for all Windows, Solaris, NetApp and Linux systems identified in the operational area of responsibility. This position is NOT responsible for server builds and decommissions on any server OS platforms. This position is also NOT responsible for DFS initialization, hub spoke server initial configuration, and field server replacements.
Provide the following support services:
Work locally or remotely with USDA technical resources to perform deployment, configuration, customization, and integration of servers in large offices, field offices and datacenters or other large environments. Remote locations will be supported over the wire. Local support in large offices or datacenter locations may be in person.
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly checks and routine maintenance tasks such as patching for all servers covered by this call order in accordance with established policy and procedures.
Report service disruption or degradation, perform necessary incident response, recommend, and implement corrective action to appropriate technical administration staff, and monitor for successful resolution within the defined SLA.
Provide recommendations to improve operational delivery, reduce errors/defects during process execution, ensure coordination with support (government and vendor) on all issues that are not considered routine in nature
Perform reporting and coordination of support related issues with COR including delivery of metrics and performance measures.
Serve as Tier 2- 3 technical support escalation point from Tier I for servers supporting contractor operated services.
Maintain and report overall server operational health for contractor managed systems.
Actively escalate in a timely manner all issues to USDA federal staff, and coordinate problem identification and troubleshooting calls with all necessary parties.
Ensure that all systems and infrastructure associated with this call order operate at the SLA availability percentage, this includes platforms, applications, and infrastructure.
Perform capacity management, performance tuning, operating system optimization with other team members as required on contractor managed systems and services.
Engage in vendor coordination and support for above technologies, including collaboration, troubleshooting and team analysis.
Monitor and assess the overall performance of the USDA services environment and providing recommendations for continuous improvement, to implement and/or to restore optimal performance.
Execute and coordinate upgrades, patching, troubleshooting, repair, and related operations of infrastructure supporting contractor operated service lines including hardware, software, and end user applications and services.
Recommend, plan, and execute configuration change(s) for operational requirements of the technical programs supported.
Perform troubleshooting, operational and administration tasks on servers supporting contractor operated services.
Configure devices to the appropriate DISA STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) or another approved hardening guide, respond to audits on same.
Provide DFS operational support including responding to alerts, critical event errors and warnings, issues reported in the DFS health reports or tickets related to DFS Replication errors including communication, staging and sharing violations affecting replication between hub and spoke servers; analyze/triage the errors and determine best resolution; apply resolution based on generally acceptable guidelines for drive utilization, file size management and when necessary, coordinate with customer to clear the staging error; escalate if no resolution is possible to SME support staff.
Provide a monthly report on server spoke exception cases based on DFS team guidelines.
Must have between 5-8 years of experience.
Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Information Management
Good interpersonal and communication (verbal and written), experience in developing and implementing policies, plans, and procedures
Works with user groups to solve business problems with available technology including hardware, software, databases and peripherals.
Proficient in supporting Netapp, VMware and Windows
Proficient in supporting Fiber Switches (Brocade and Cisco).
Experience with Linux Administration
Experience with scripting using Shell, PowerShell, Perl, Ruby and Python, for example
Experience with AD, DNS, SMTP, NFS, SMB, CIFS, DHCP, LDAP, etc.
Experience with system monitoring, performance troubleshooting and OS tuning
Familiarity with replication or DR technologies
Strong communication skills with a focus on customer service
Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities
